What the mock covers

A full PM interview round in the format the company you are targeting actually uses. Product sense questions ask you to design or improve a product for a specific user. Execution questions hand you a metric that moved and ask you to diagnose it. Behavioural questions probe how you have actually led, shipped, and handled conflict.

The AI interviewer asks the follow-ups that separate strong candidates from rehearsed ones: who exactly is this user, why that segment over the others, what would you measure, what would you give up to ship it sooner, and what would make you kill it.

This matters because PM interviews are not knowledge tests. Two candidates can name the same framework and get opposite outcomes based on whether they can defend a choice under pressure.

What gets scored

  • Structure — do you frame the problem and set a clear approach before diving into ideas?
  • User insight — do you pick a specific segment and demonstrate real understanding of their problem?
  • Prioritisation — can you justify why this solution over the alternatives you considered?
  • Metrics — do you name a north star, supporting metrics, and a counter-metric that would catch harm?
  • Trade-offs — do you make the cost of your choice explicit rather than pretending there isn’t one?
  • Communication — is your answer top-down, signposted, and easy to follow?

Questions you will get

A sample of what the mock asks, and what a strong answer has to do.

1. How would you improve Google Maps for a first-time visitor to a city?

Product sense answers are scored on the specificity of the user, not the volume of ideas. Pick one segment, name their sharpest problem, then solve that problem rather than listing features.

2. Daily active users dropped 8% week over week. Walk me through how you would diagnose it.

Execution questions reward a systematic split before any hypothesis: is it real or an instrumentation bug, is it broad or segment-specific, is it new users or returning ones? Guessing a cause first is the most common failure.

3. Tell me about a time you shipped something that did not work. What did you do?

Behavioural answers need a real decision and a real consequence. Interviewers are listening for what you personally chose and what you changed afterwards, not how the team recovered.

How it works

  1. 1

    Choose your round

Product sense, execution and analytics, or behavioural. Set the seniority to APM, PM, or senior PM so the depth of the follow-ups matches the bar you are being held to.

  2. 2

    Answer out loud

The AI interviewer asks the question, lets you think, then probes your reasoning the way a real interviewer would — including the follow-ups most candidates are not ready for.

  3. 3

    Review your scored report

You get a transcript scored per dimension, the moments where your reasoning thinned out, and concrete rewrites of your weakest answers.

What PM interviewers are actually assessing

PM interview loops look like they test frameworks, but the frameworks are table stakes. What is being assessed is whether you can make a defensible decision with incomplete information and explain why you made it.

That shows up in the follow-ups. Anyone can name a user segment; the signal is in whether you can say why that segment and not the larger one, and what you are willing to give up to serve them well. Anyone can list metrics; the signal is whether you name a counter-metric that would tell you your own idea is harming the product.

Rehearsed answers fall apart at exactly this point, which is why practising out loud with an interviewer who probes matters more than reading another framework guide.

APM applications run on a tight window

Associate Product Manager programmes at Google, Meta, Uber, and similar companies typically open applications in August and September, with interviews running through autumn. These programmes are among the most competitive entry points into product, and the loops move fast once you are in them.

If you are targeting an APM cycle, product sense practice should be well underway before applications open — the gap between submitting and interviewing is often only a few weeks.

How to practise if you are switching into product

Candidates moving into PM from engineering, consulting, or design usually have one strong dimension and one weak one. Engineers tend to be strong on execution and weak on user reasoning. Consultants are strong on structure and weak on product specifics. Designers are strong on user insight and weak on metrics.

The efficient approach is to diagnose which dimension is dragging your score and drill that, rather than doing generalised practice. A scored report per session makes that gap visible after two or three mocks instead of after a failed onsite.

Frequently asked questions

Is the first PM mock interview free?

Yes. You can run a full mock and get the scored report at no cost. An account is only needed so your transcript and feedback are saved.

Which PM interview rounds does this cover?

Product sense and design, execution and analytics, and behavioural rounds. You pick the round when you start, and you can set the seniority to APM, PM, or senior PM.

Does it cover Google, Meta, and Amazon formats?

The rounds map to the formats those companies use — product sense at Google and Meta, and behavioural questions structured around Amazon’s Leadership Principles. You can also practise Amazon-style behavioural questions specifically.

How long does a PM mock interview take?

A single round runs 30 to 45 minutes depending on how deep the follow-ups go, matching a real interview slot. The scored report arrives within a few minutes.

I have no PM experience yet. Is this useful?

Yes, and it is often more useful. Candidates switching in usually have one dimension that is quietly dragging their score — user reasoning for engineers, metrics for designers. A per-dimension score surfaces that after two or three sessions rather than after a failed onsite.
