About this role

Chemistry Expert or Specialist (AI Training)

About the Role

What if your years of chemistry expertise could directly shape how AI reasons through some of the most complex scientific problems in the world? We're looking for Chemistry Experts to help train and evaluate cutting-edge AI models — designing rigorous problems, assessing scientific reasoning, and ensuring these systems perform at the highest academic standard.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for PhD-level chemists and chemical engineers. No AI background required — just deep domain expertise and a sharp analytical mind.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Design advanced chemistry problems spanning domains such as chemical engineering, biochemistry, organic chemistry, and physical chemistry
  • Develop clear, rigorous, step-by-step solutions that demonstrate expert-level reasoning
  • Evaluate AI-generated responses for scientific accuracy, logical coherence, and depth of reasoning
  • Collaborate with researchers to build and refine benchmarks across undergraduate to PhD-level chemistry topics
  • Provide structured, detailed feedback that directly improves how AI models understand and apply chemistry
  • Work independently and asynchronously — fully on your own schedule

Who You Are

  • Currently pursuing or have completed a PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or a closely related field
  • Strong problem-solving skills across multiple advanced chemistry domains
  • Able to communicate complex scientific concepts clearly and precisely in writing
  • Detail-oriented and methodical — you hold your work to a high standard
  • Self-motivated and reliable when working independently
  • No prior AI or machine learning experience required

Nice to Have

  • Experience with data annotation, data quality review, or evaluation systems
  • Background in scientific writing, academic publishing, or curriculum design
  • Familiarity with AI tools or language model evaluation workflows
  • Expertise spanning multiple sub-disciplines of chemistry or chemical engineering

Why Join Us

  • Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading research labs
  • Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you
  • Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, high-impact work
  • Gain rare exposure to how frontier large language models are trained and evaluated
  • Contribute to AI development that shapes how science is understood and communicated at scale
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
