About this role

Mathematician, PhD (AI Training)

About the Role

What if the mathematical expertise you spent years developing could directly shape how AI reasons, proves, and solves problems for millions of people worldwide? We're looking for PhD-level mathematicians to evaluate and improve the mathematical capabilities of cutting-edge AI systems — ensuring they meet the highest standards of rigor, accuracy, and logical soundness.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role. You'll work asynchronously on your own schedule, applying your deep domain knowledge to problems that matter at the frontier of AI development.

What You'll Do

  • Develop, review, and refine advanced mathematical problems and questions — spanning areas such as causal inference, experimental design, proof construction, and abstract theory
  • Evaluate AI-generated mathematical reasoning, identifying errors in logic, methodology, and computation
  • Annotate and categorize mathematical expressions, proofs, equations, and word problems to build high-quality training datasets
  • Map relationships between mathematical concepts to help AI models understand the deep structure of mathematics
  • Contribute to comprehensive training datasets that span a wide range of mathematical domains and difficulty levels
  • Provide expert feedback that directly improves AI model accuracy and reasoning quality

Who You Are

  • You hold a PhD in mathematics or a closely related field, with demonstrated expertise in research, teaching, or advanced problem-solving
  • You have experience developing or critically reviewing sophisticated mathematical content — such as research publications, graduate-level problem sets, or technical curriculum
  • You excel at communicating advanced mathematical concepts with clarity and precision
  • You enjoy translating abstract theory into concrete, well-structured problems and explanations
  • You're detail-oriented, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently in an asynchronous environment

Nice to Have

  • Specialization in statistics, probability, causal inference, combinatorics, or applied mathematics
  • Experience with data labeling, RLHF, or AI model evaluation projects
  • Background in curriculum development or mathematical education at the graduate level
  • Familiarity with AI tools or machine learning concepts

Why Join Us

  • Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading research labs and top AI companies
  • Fully remote and asynchronous — work when and where it suits you
  • Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, high-impact work
  • Your expertise directly improves the mathematical reasoning of AI systems used by leading institutions worldwide
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
  • High performers take on expanded responsibilities and help shape new programs
