Browse all AI training jobsWhat SME Careers is
SME Careers is SuperAnnotate’s network of subject matter experts. SuperAnnotate sells training data to AI companies and foundation-model labs, and SME Careers is where it hires the people who produce that data: language specialists, engineers, scientists, clinicians and lawyers, paid by the hour to write, review and grade what models say.
The work is concrete. A Dutch language expert reviews AI-generated Dutch for fluency and mistranslation, then writes the gold-standard answer. A rubric designer turns a field’s judgment into criteria a model can be scored against. Safety auditors classify how models answer dangerous questions in chemistry, explosives and nuclear science. Every role is a remote, hourly contract.
Listings are scoped by country. Language roles usually name one to four countries, often just one, while many coding and science roles open to seventeen or more. The rate on each card is a ceiling, such as up to $45 an hour, and most listings publish no floor.
What SME Careers pays right now
Most SME Careers listings publish a ceiling rather than a range. Across all 262 listings on 3 November 2026, language roles mostly topped out at $20 to $36 an hour, coding roles at $55 to $70, science roles at $75 to $100, and rubric design, AI safety audits and legal work at $90 to $120, with a specialist physician role at $150. Hourly time is tracked in Insightful, and weeks run Monday to Sunday, paid through Deel the following Friday.
Who SME Careers hires
Language experts are the largest group: native speakers of Dutch, Catalan, Telugu, Kannada, Assamese, Odia and dozens more, reviewing and writing AI output in their own language. Around them sit coding roles in Python, JavaScript, Go, SQL and iOS; science roles for materials scientists, biochemists, physicists and chemical and biomedical engineers; and a top tier of physicians, radiologists, attorneys and rubric designers.
Many listings are team lead roles. A lead reviews other trainers’ work for quality and consistency and gives them feedback, and lead listings post higher ceilings than the expert roles beside them. Each role has its own interview, so if you have run reviews or QA in your field, apply to the lead listing as well as the expert one.
How SME Careers screens you
SME Careers screens every role with its own AI interview. It is a recorded video conversation, scheduled for about 15 minutes, taken in a desktop browser with your camera and microphone on. It opens with a warm-up question, then moves to skill questions for the role. Most interviews run in English; a language role can run in that language, and the welcome screen says which.
You get one interview per role, plus one retake if your result comes back as Needs Retake. Further attempts are rare and at the team’s discretion. Results take one to two business days: AI drafts the assessment, and a person makes the final call. Google, ChatGPT and notes are prohibited, checked for, and grounds for disqualification. Concrete examples from your own work score better than general claims, and saying you do not know beats bluffing.
Some roles add a qualification exam after the interview, on an external platform, and a paid exam counts as earnings. Then come screening, a contractor agreement and identity check through Deel, a Discord connection, and a project invitation, sometimes preceded by a bootcamp. With one retake per role, rehearse before the first attempt, not after it.
Practise the SME Careers screen before you take it
Skillora runs the same format: a domain interview with an AI interviewer, followed by feedback on how you explained your reasoning. Take it as many times as you want before the one that counts.

Is SME Careers legit?
Yes. SME Careers is SuperAnnotate’s expert network, and its own postings describe it as a SuperAnnotate subsidiary supplying training data to large AI companies and foundation-model labs. Contracts and payments run through Deel, and approved earnings are paid weekly. The real risks are the usual ones in this market: projects pause, and passing the interview qualifies you for projects without guaranteeing one.
How much does SME Careers pay?
By the hour, at the rate in your contract. Listings show a ceiling, such as up to $45 an hour, and most publish no floor. On 3 November 2026 language roles mostly topped out between $20 and $36, coding and science roles between $55 and $100, and a specialist physician role at $150. The live cards above show today’s rates.
What is the SME Careers AI interview like?
A recorded video interview with an AI interviewer, scheduled for about 15 minutes. It starts with a warm-up, then asks skill questions for the role. The AI waits about five seconds after you stop talking before it responds, so finish your thought and pause. Outside help is prohibited and checked for. AI drafts the assessment and a person makes the decision.
How many times can I retake the interview?
Once per role, and only if your result is Needs Retake. Every completed interview counts as an attempt, including one still under review, so wait for your result before trying again. Using up your attempts on one role does not stop you interviewing for others. Practise before the first attempt, because the retake is the only spare you get.
When and how does SME Careers pay?
Weekly, through Deel. Work weeks run Monday to Sunday, the team approves each earning, and the payout is issued the following Friday. Funds usually arrive one to three days later, depending on your Deel payout method. Tracked time sits under Pending Review until it is checked, and anything approved late joins a later payout.
What happens after I pass?
Some roles add a qualification exam on an external platform, paid as an exam earning once your Deel contract and identity check are complete. Then the team screens your profile, you sign a contractor agreement through Deel, connect Discord, and wait for a project invitation. Hourly projects track your time in Insightful, and only some categories of tracked time are paid.
