These freelance management consultant jobs pay former consultants for the part of the job a model cannot do yet: judge a case. You build a case from an engagement you ran, with the client’s situation, the data and the constraint. Then you grade how a model sizes the market, structures the problem and lands the recommendation.
Independent consulting usually means selling before you deliver. Here there is no pitch, no statement of work and no client to manage. The listing publishes the rate, you pass a screen, and the work arrives as projects open.
The screen is an AI interview about your consulting work, and it rewards what a case interviewer rewards: structure, clean numbers and a committed answer. The case interview guides linked on this page are the fastest way back into shape for it.
Published hourly rates for each section on this page, computed from the open listings. Paid studies publish no hourly rate.
| Engagement | Open listings | Published hourly rate |
|---|---|---|
| Project roles | 3 | $150 to $350 |
| Talent networks | 3 | $60 to $150 |
Project listings name the work. Strategy evaluation roles grade a model’s answers to business problems and write the reference answer. Presentation roles rebuild executive slides until a partner would send them. Some marketplaces also run short paid evaluation studies.
The experience bar is stated plainly. Some listings prefer time at a top strategy firm; others require two years in a client-facing consulting role. Read the bar before you apply, because the screen checks it.

A talent network is a standing listing, not a job opening. You apply once, pass the screen, and get invited to consulting projects as AI labs start them. Typical projects ask for 15 to 30 hours a week while they run.
The work inside matches what consultants already do: build grading criteria for market analyses, strategy recommendations and financial models, then score work against them with a written justification.

A typical task reads like a case review. A model gets a business problem; you check whether its segmentation holds, whether the numbers tie out and whether the recommendation follows from the analysis. Then you write the answer a strong engagement manager would sign off, and explain each gap.
Check the confidentiality and non-compete terms from your old firm before you build cases from past engagements. Disguise every client, as you would in a case interview, and never bring confidential data into a task.
Six marketplaces publish this work openly. Every listing above links to the one that posted it, and each has its own page here covering pay, screening and who gets hired.
They are hourly contracts for consulting judgment, sold to AI labs instead of clients. You never run an engagement. You write and grade the reasoning an engagement runs on: structure, analysis and recommendation.
Not always. Some listings prefer time at a top strategy firm, and others ask for two or more years in any client-facing consulting role. Talent networks ask for professional consulting experience. Each listing states its own bar.
The pay table on this page shows the live published range. Project roles that ask for top-firm or client-facing experience post the highest rates; talent networks post a lower band. Every rate comes from the listings themselves.
Platforms like Catalant and Business Talent Group match you to client projects, which means scoping, pitching and managing a client. Here the client is an AI lab buying your judgment by the hour, so the work starts once you pass the screen.
Treat it like a case interview. Structure out loud, do the maths cleanly and commit to a recommendation. The McKinsey and case interview guides on this site, and a mock case interview, are the fastest way back into practice.
Usually, if your employer allows paid outside work. Consultants now in industry, between roles or on a break between engagements all fit. Check your current employer’s outside-work policy first.
AI training is one market for former consultants. These are the established routes to client work.
Every marketplace above screens with an interview or assessment in your own domain before assigning paid work. Run that interview with Skillora first and get feedback on how you explained your reasoning, not just on what you said.
