About this role

Role Title: Investment Banking Associate

Role Type: Contractor

Location: Remote

micro1 is engaging Investment Banking Associates to contribute their expertise to a project focused on building high-quality datasets that reflect authentic investment banking workflows. In this role, you'll apply your expertise to help train next-generation AI systems. Your work will shape how models learn, reason, and perform through high-quality, real-world input. No prior experience in AI is required — your domain knowledge is what matters.

Scope of Work

  1. Design, author, and refine project tasks that simulate core investment banking activities such as pitch book construction, valuation analysis, market updates, deal comparables, and precedent transaction reviews.
  2. Develop and review complex financial models, including DCF, LBO, merger consequences, accretion/dilution, and trading/precedent comparables, ensuring analytical rigor and realism.
  3. Deliver written analysis on deal rationale, strategic fit, capital structure, and prevailing market conditions at a standard expected by investment banking decision makers.
  4. Evaluate and provide feedback on AI-generated outputs for accuracy, professional formatting, and alignment with authentic IB workflows as seen in analyst or associate deliverables.
  5. Collaborate with project leads to calibrate rubrics, quality standards, and address nuanced edge cases in financial reasoning and methodology.
  6. Ensure clarity, precision, and professionalism in all documentation and written communication, supporting the project's goal of training advanced language models.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. 3–6+ years of hands-on experience in investment banking at a bulge-bracket, elite boutique, or leading middle-market platform (M&A, ECM, DCM, LevFin, or industry coverage).
  2. Completion of an MBA, Master’s in Finance, or equivalent advanced degree; graduates of top-tier programs (e.g. Wharton, LBS, INSEAD) are especially encouraged.
  3. Direct track record building financial models and pitch materials that were reviewed by Managing Directors or presented to clients.
  4. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver clear, concise, and client-ready documentation and commentary.
  5. Demonstrated mastery in valuation judgement, deal analysis, and financial analysis techniques across a range of transaction types.
  6. Strong attention to detail with a commitment to delivering work that meets the highest standards of the investment banking profession.
