What AI labs pay voice talent for

These voice recording jobs train speech AI. Some ask you to read scripts and act out conversations so a text-to-speech model learns how a real accent sounds. Some record a single voice that one company’s customer service agent will speak with. Some ask for plain read-aloud speech in a quiet room, no acting at all. All of them pay for a natural, consistent voice.

Read two things on every listing before you apply. First, where you record. Many of the best-paid voice actor listings are a fixed number of sessions, often two or three of four hours each, in a professional studio near you. Others are fully remote from your own setup. Second, what happens to your voice. Most actor and studio listings state that the project does not clone voices. Voice cloning roles say your voice may be cloned for one client’s AI agent, and ask you to apply only if you accept that.

Accent is the other filter. Most listings want one specific accent, such as Scottish, Welsh, Irish, Australian, South African, Indian or a regional US accent, and often a home base in that country.

Remote Voice Actor Jobs

Remote voice actor jobs here pay working voice professionals to record from their own studio. You record expressive performances from scripts and prompts, then evaluate AI-generated speech in your language for naturalness, pronunciation and emotion, and write feedback on what sounds off.

The bar is professional: a background in voice acting, narration, audiobooks or dubbing, a large-diaphragm or similar high-quality microphone, and a quiet, acoustically controlled room. German, French and Italian tracks have posted the highest rates in this feed.

Studio Voice Recording Sessions Near You

These listings book you for a fixed number of sessions in a professional recording studio near you, usually two or three sessions of four hours each. The marketplace assigns the studio. You record natural, conversational speech in your own accent, alone and in two-person dialogues, and you need no equipment of your own.

They want voice actors and voice-over artists with an authentic regional accent: Scottish, Welsh, Irish and English accents from the UK, Australian, South African and Indian English, and Spanish from Spain or Mexico. Most of these listings state that the voice will not be cloned. Because the work is a short booking, it fits around other jobs.

Voice Cloning Jobs

Voice cloning jobs pay you to become one company’s AI voice. You record a single session of about four hours, sometimes followed by a second, across conversational, narrative and instructional scripts. Your recordings train a text-to-speech voice for that client’s customer service agent, and the listings say they will not be sold or reused for anything else.

Apply only if you accept that your voice may be cloned; the listings say so in plain words. Voice acting experience is a plus, not a requirement, and a customer support or call center background is preferred, since the voice will answer customers. You need a near-professional home setup: a quality microphone, a pop filter and a quiet room. Each listing wants one accent and one country.

Voice Recording Jobs With No Acting Experience

Not every listing wants an actor. Read-aloud projects give you text to read in a natural voice, by a guide on pacing and pronunciation, and some accept recordings from a smartphone in a quiet room. Recording specialist roles mix scripted reading with open conversation and a short form about each session.

Voice trainer and voice coach roles sit in between. You record samples and judge AI speech, or describe the vocal qualities of short recordings in professional terms, and those roles ask for voice, acting or coaching experience. Pay is lower than studio and actor work, but there is no session booking to wait for.

What the work looks like

A recording task is a script, a guide and a quality check. You read lines or perform prompts with the pacing, emotion and pronunciation the guide asks for, re-record takes that miss, and submit clean files. On evaluation tasks you listen to AI-generated speech instead and mark where it sounds unnatural, mispronounced or flat.

Consistency matters more than range. A model learns from hours of the same voice, so your tone, distance from the microphone and energy must match across sessions. Studio sessions solve the room for you. Remote work leaves it to your setup, and background noise is a common reason to re-record.

Read the consent terms before you record anything. A voice used to train a speech model can sound like you afterwards. Know whether a project clones voices, who may use the result and for what, and keep a copy of what you agreed to.

Voice recording AI training jobs, answered

Are these voice recording jobs legit?

Yes. Every listing comes from an AI training marketplace, mostly Alignerr, Mercor and micro1, and links to the marketplace that posted it. The rate is published before you apply, and none of them charge you to join.

How much do voice recording jobs pay?

Voice actor and studio listings post the highest rates in this category, many at $100 an hour or more. Read-aloud and evaluation work post less. The pay table on this page shows the live range for each type of work, from the listings themselves.

Will my voice be cloned?

It depends on the listing, and the listing says. Most voice actor and studio listings state that the project does not clone voices. Voice cloning roles say your voice may be cloned for one client’s AI agent and that the recordings will not be reused elsewhere. The tag on each card flags the cloning roles.

Can I record from home?

For some listings. Remote voice actor roles want your own professional setup, voice cloning roles want a near-professional one, and some read-aloud projects accept a smartphone in a quiet room. Studio session listings book you into a professional studio near you instead. The tag on each card says which applies.

Do I need voice acting experience?

For actor and studio roles, yes: they ask for professional voice, narration, dubbing or audiobook work. Voice cloning roles call it a plus. Read-aloud roles need only a clear, natural voice.

What equipment do I need?

For remote actor work, a large-diaphragm condenser or similar high-quality microphone and an acoustically controlled room. For voice cloning, a quality microphone, a pop filter and a quiet room. For read-aloud work, sometimes only a smartphone and a quiet room. Studio sessions need nothing of your own.

Other places to find voice work

AI training is one market for voice talent. These are the established routes to client work.

  • Voice casting sites. Voices.com and Voice123 list commercial, narration and e-learning jobs you audition for, with paid membership plans.
  • ACX. Audiobook narration for Audible, paid per finished hour or as a royalty share.
  • Fiverr. Fixed-price voice-over gigs you list and price yourself, with a 20% fee on every order.
  • Talent agencies. Commercial, animation and game voice work in larger markets still runs through agents.
  • Local studios and production houses. Radio, e-learning and phone system recording often goes to voices the engineer already knows.

The screen is where these roles are won

Every marketplace above screens with an interview or assessment in your own domain before assigning paid work. Run that interview with Skillora first and get feedback on how you explained your reasoning, not just on what you said.
